Hi Folks,

I have purchased a new ignition switch for my aluminum runabout, 33 horse 1965-68 evinrude ski-twin, electric start without alternator/generator.

there was no key with the original ignition switch which had 5 terminals no accessory or "ignition circuit" terminal

Now that I have picked up this sea-dog model 420383 ignition switch with 6 terminals. (magneto style on/off/start push to choke.)

-magneto
-magneto ground
-starter solenoid
-choke
-battery
-Ignition circuit

the question I have for you all is When is the ignition circuit energized?
 can i use it as an accessory circuit to power my small switch board? just 2 running lights and 2 interior/cabin lights and a cigarette lighter on the switchboard all fused.

Or would it be best not to use the ignition circuit terminal and run a wire straight from the battery wire through a fuse to the switch board?

thanks.

ive checked the ignition circuit terminal voltage, seems 12 volts when the key is in the on position.

this leads me to believe I am ok to use the ignition circuit terminal as accessory power.

any reason I shouldnt?

Herb I was advised by some very wise folks to never pull power for much of anything from the ignition switch circuit. That circuit is designed to power the ignition system, and not much more.

If you want "switched power" use the "ign" or acc. terminal to control a relay, but pull the main power straight from the battery. (Fused, of course). You might get away with it for occasional light duty use, but personally I wouldn't take a chance.
