TOPIC: Steering Wheel removal

Steering Wheel removal 10 years 3 months ago #97475

A pal has a vintage steering wheel that he is hoping he can remove from the helm without damaging it.
I suspect that there is a nut on a key'd shaft hiding behind the center cap, but we are not sure how to remove the center cap without damaging it.
I'm hoping someone recognizes the set-up and knows whether to simply pry it up or ???
Thanks in advance,
Doc

Beautiful steering wheel no wonder he doesn't want to damage it.

Doc, I think I may have an identical wheel minus the centrecap buried amongst my collection of bits & pieces. I cannot look until the weekend but will do so and take pics showing the insides for you. I think it is made of aluminium alloy, and may even have been made by Kainer or a similar name.
Mine is a burgundy/red colour and I think dates from the early 50s.
It would be nice to supply you with some information for a change!
