My new Jetabout has the single "Flex" cable steering system. The cable sheath has snapped. Does anyone know where I can find a 12'"flex" cable for a 1958 Mercury Mark 58? New or used would work for me.
Thanks
Steve

There is a company called TeleFlex that produces control cables, are you seeing that stamped in your cable somewhere? I'm a little confused Steve, I thought it was identified as a Mercury Ride Guide cable in your previous thread;

The responder did state that. As for me I have no idea what it is. My flex label was from a call to an old boat guy who wanted to sell me a 2 cable/pulley setup. I said no it's a single cable and he said "oh you need the flex style". I think I'm using flex as a generic term. I will try to get more pictures up.

That looks like the ride guide cable in my powercat. I plan on replacing it soon with hydraulics. Once I do I'll have an entire ride guide system for sale. The cable is about 12' long.

Hydraulic, hmmm maybe I should consider that. Does it have to be customized to your boat?

For what it is worth, it is definitely an early Ride Guide cable. Identical to the one on my 58 glasspar, except for the end connections because mine was set up originally for dual 35hp johnsons, not a merc. That said, you can get rotary systems that would fit the boat and work fine.

From what i'm finding you can get a kit with the helm and actuator. Then buy the hoses according to length you need.

This is what i'm looking at:
www.seastarsolutions.com/products/hydraulic-new/outboard-new/

The 'Cat will have 200HP total. Most people thought the Ride Guide cable might be a weak-point with that much power. It worked fine when Brian had 2 40 HP motors on it though.

The baystar setup is a bit cheaper, but it's only for up to 150HP.
