Electric shift and throttle too, all kinds of changes going on here. (What's old is new again on the electric shift!) Getting mixed reviews on the styling, but MANY color options available from what I've heard.

(Think I'll keep my old one for now! )

I don't care for the looks. When I bought my Honda 8 four stroke in 2004 used the dealer gave me the rest of the original Honda warranty and two extra years and told me it would perform as well as my 9.8 Mercury or he would give my money back. Well I still got it. I want to use my old Johnnyrude though.

Love the new technology.

Hate the look. Looks like something out of the new Transformers movie.

Nothing symmetrical, shapes are not recognizable, bad aesthetic design. They need to think of form and function...

I like the look but you would have to have a boat that matched the same sharp lines, something also Transformer looking.

Yeah impressed with the specs but not the look. Looks to Transformerish to me. I know it's all the rage now but.....................

The lower unit isn't electric shift, it uses fly by wire controls. There is an actuator under the cowl to move shift lever. The control system is clean and simple but expensive.

if it was a transformer. what body part would the prop be when in robot form? also what side would it be on. looks to evil to be an autobot. a glasstronobot maybe?

I like it. A refreshing change to the same-o same-o. We'll see what FonDuLac comes up with (Merc).

These motors are just built for rich folks who buy new motors every 5 years or so.
Few shops will want to repair / rebuild them.
Too many wires and sensors.

Prof, I agree but ya gotta keep in mind of the generation coming up that are computer savy geeks. This is what they will be growing up with just as we grew up with our conventional ign systems. Had to hammer fuel injection and CDI and oil injection into us. I'm sure there will be tech schools preparing younger people for these motors. OMC, Yamaha etc. and Merc are years ahead of the curve. and hire younger people just for this purpose. Think of what things would be like if no one took a leap of faith like that.
Could be a big bust but so was Coke new formula. IMHO

Was the styling influenced by the 7.5HP Scott/ McCulloch/ Elgin from the early 60s ?

well someone put the emblem on sideways if they would have stacked the letters it would look better. it reminds me of when they started putting the engines in sideways in cars. took some time to get use to. i guess this means when something goes wrong if it does, you wont know where to start to fix it. but in a hundred years boats wont even get wet, they will just float over the water.

I do not see a piss hole. Now they are screwing with me. Sometime people who design things make mistakes.
