TOPIC: couple questions about painting deck

couple questions about painting deck 10 years 3 months ago #96774

ok so the top layers of the deck are fiberglassed(polyester/waxed). the decision has been made to use tractor paint for the finishing paint. do i have to use a primer, or can i just get away with paint&hardner? im guessing i should go with sanding before painting also correct, cause it has a shiny finish?

I think you'll get a much nicer paint job if you do use primer first. I did not, and there are several places the color is slightly uneven, and you can tell the texture changes. They're hardly noticeable, but I know they're there!

Primer also helps promote good adhesion for the top coat, although I haven't had any issues with that. Preparation they say is the biggest factor in how a paint job turns out, I know I sanded until I couldn't sand it anymore! (Little play on words, sorry.) :P
