TOPIC: Falls Lake, N.C. Classic Boat Event

Falls Lake, N.C. Classic Boat Event 10 years 3 months ago #96075

Our ECGOA group is planning our second annual "Falls Lake, N.C. Classic Boat Event" on Staurday June 28, 2014 from about 9:30 A.M.
until dark. We held this event last year and had a good turnout.
Posted below is some pictures from last years event.

We will again be meeting at the Falls Lake State Park Ramp located off Creedmoor Road (Hwy 50) near Wake Forest, N.C. This is a very nice ramp with paved parking and ramps along with some picnic areas and docks. I will post a link with the addresses etc.

Falls Lake is a beautiful area and I call it a "chain of lakes" as the lakes seem to be linked together as you run your boat. As we did last year, we will be bringing out lunches with us and plan to run the lake and find a beach to stop at and swim and or socialize with everyone. All brands of boats are welcome, old or new and we look forward to seeing some of the members there!

Mark S.,....we would love to see you there this year with your beautiful Glastron Sir! ;)

Here are some photos from last years event:

Thanks John, I'm going to do my best to make it up there my friend! I'm afraid you are going to be disappointed with my paint job though, it looks great from 10' away (and in the pics)!

So the question is where to stay if I can make it down? To far for a one day trip.

Bob, it's pretty close to I-85,Raleigh and Durham so there should be plenty of motels. John (60red g3)or someone else has probably scoped it out and can tell you where you can lodge. jim

Re:Falls Lake, N.C. Classic Boat Event 10 years 3 months ago #96162

Thanks Jim. I was wondering if there was anything like cabins on the lake or something. I'm a little leery parking the boat in a motel parking lot, not to mention taking up a lot of parking space.

Linda and I have stayed in B&B's each time we have attended Falls Lake events. I'll see if I can dig up some info on that.

I wanted to bring this back to the top to remind all members of our upcoming event this Saturday @ Falls Lake, N.C. So far, it looks like we will have about five to six boats there and I am hoping for more than that.

A map is attached on a link above along with a list of hotels.
We will meet at the State Park Ramp off Creedmoor Road between
9:30-10:00 A.M.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again! ;)

Jim:

Thanks for your reply buddy! ;) Sharon and I are looking forward to this event and seeing all of you again too. We should have a couple of new members to this event, namely, Ronnie and Barb Nunnally. They have a real nice restored 1961 Glasspar G-3 and Ronnie just put on a brand new "Tohatsu" 50 HP Outboard WITH A 15"
LOWER UNIT! That is the first one I had heard of on a new motor!
So,...it will be good to see Ronnie and Barb running this new engine on their vintage G-3.

Re:Falls Lake, N.C. Classic Boat Event 10 years 3 months ago #96917

Well,...we had our 2nd Annual Falls Lake, NC Classic Boating Event yesterday and I can say that although only four (4) classic boats attended, we enjoyed the event very much.

The four boats that attended were as follows:

1.) 1960 Glasspar G-3- Mike and Linda
2.) 1960 Glasspar Seafair Sedan- John and Sharon
3.) 1961 Glasspar G-3- Ronnie and Barb
4.) 1963 AristoCraft- Jim and Dee

Three of our fellow Fiberglassics Friends had planned to attend, namely, Al Wilson, Bob (Waterwings) and Mark S. but were unable to
make it. Al, Bob and Mark,...we missed all of you! :(

Fortunately, the weather held out despite early cloudiness. The air temperature was a comfortable 83-84 degrees. The lake water was warm but a little dirty due to recent rains.

Ronnie and Barb got a chance to "break-in" their new 2014 "Tohatsu" 50 HP Direct Injected Two-Stroke on their
1961 G-3 and I am happy to report that it ran very well all
day. Ronnie was like a kid with a new toy!!

My thanks to all who attended the event! Pictures to follow....

Crap really wanted to go but if it's any consolation I got the shed painted and the stringers/plywood bolsters CPES'd for the Century. I'm going to have to make sure the Admiral doesn't have anything gone on next time.

Supposedly there was some discussion about holding this meet again in 2015. I saw in teh Caolinas Chapter AOMCI that June 27th was the date, but nobody knew who to confirm this with. Does anyone know about this ?

I attended last year and curious if/when it will be held this year ..

Thanks,

Denny:

I haven't heard anything about those dates Sir. I am no longer getting any e-mails or correspondence from the AOMCI. I don't know what happened, possibly I was taken off their list or something??

Mike Dickson and I have not had a chance to put down any concrete dates for our group but if we do I will let you know. If you get any updates on the June 27th date please let us know.

Thanks Denny!
