TOPIC: Color choices any ideas?

Color choices any ideas? 10 years 3 months ago #95919

I am stuck again. Sometimes I see bright red on top and white bottom, Then a blue bottom with off white top, Then red bottom with metal flake white..............Or all the same color with fin inlay different. Then I think get rid of the exterior fin moldings.
Any ideas? Thanks Dave

I like Greg's idea. Also an Aqua top, with white or cram inserts and white bottom would looke good, but like Greg said, your boat your colors. I'm not that greta with Photoshop or I'd show you how it looks.

I have a system, such as it is. First, decide what colors you want. You can look at a color wheel: Red, yellow blue primaries; orange, green, purple secondaries. After you decide, drive around looking at cars and see what shade you like. Find out the make, year and model and you'll have your color. Then decide what you want for an accent color...stripes, two-tone, whatever. You can go with two-tone or a complimentary color. Generally, a boat seems to look better (to me) with off-white topsides and a color on the hull with accent striping. The bottom should be either white or my old standby, black below the waterline. The darker the hull color, the lower the boat looks like it's sitting in the water. Never but a dark color on the topsides and a light color on the hull. It will look top-heavy.

I'm going to be painting 1969 Ski Nautique 1955 Lincoln Wisteria with small purple accents and striping, off-white topsides....very classy but different.

Personally, I'd go with 1956 Chevy Tropical Turquoise over seafoam green any day. I also have a list of color codes that are my favorites for baby blue, deep green, off white, maroon, etc.

By the way, I have PPG color codes for any Big Three automotive color prior to about 1990.

Best advice? Use your own discretion...just don't screw it up!

Dave the Wave et. al.,

Inasmuch as "our resident Texas Aggie" has checked in with the recommendation of MAROON over WHITE, as "the resident UT Tea-sipper" must simply suggest BURNT ORANGE over WHITE.
