I spotted this 56 cadillac on the tube for you. wonder if that could be the steering wheel you're looking for??

satx, I know this is a little pricey,but I thought it would give you a better look at one of those wheels if it turns out to be correct for your boat.

I believe the one in the video is the same wheel AND it's the SAME model boat, too.

That one on Ebay makes the one I bought with you there, at the N TX auction for $12.50 look really good being the fact that the one I got is in so much better shape.

My question is
Why does someone have a Mercury wheel on a boat with a OMC motor?

And I thought that you were going to put a 1956 Evinrude on the boat so why would you be looking for a Mercury wheel?

And I would never run my cables above the gun rails.....build or buy a attachment for the motor to bring the connection lower into the boat.

There was a 50s Atwood wheel that went for less than $18 today on ebay...... Hub and all.....shipping was $34

frankly, I have NO idea what OB that the Cadillac tinny had. - And the nice lady that I got it from has NO idea, either. = Neither he/she are "boat people". - They just want the rig GONE, as they are moving back to Mexico.
(As best I can tell with my very poor Espanol & his "somewhat broken" Spanglish, the boat/trailer was already on the property when the couple bought it.)

When I have it in hand (I cannot get into the property right now, as I don't care to be dog BITTEN. = FOUR large/nasty-tempered dogs.), I'll get Noemi to take/post photos.

Of course, it will eventually have a 1956 OMC as power.

Fwiw, I just got off the phone (an hour ago) with a VERY NICE/POLITE Cadillac tinny owner, who is KNOWLEDGEABLE about these boats.

He said that ALL of the 1956 Daytona boats have Mercury steering wheels. = He was told that Cadillac Marine & Boatworks bought a "bunch" of those steering wheels for their aluminum ski-boats.
(His boat came new with a 30HP OMC outboard.)

He further told me that:
1. Mine IS for sure a 1956 DAYTONA.
2. It was polished all over and never painted, outside.
3. The floor was painted with a "textured yellowish green color" that extended up the sides about 6" from the floor-seam.
4. Redwood "planks" were a factory accessory and fitted over the side-braces.
5. Redwood "plank" seat-backs were a factory option.
(He sent me a diagram of the seat-backs, which folded down.)
6. NONE of the 1956 Cadillac aluminum boats had upholstery or even cushions.
7. Many Daytona hulls were delivered WITHOUT windshields.
8. All the 1956 Cadillac boats have FOUR-digit serial numbers.
AND
9. He is mailing me a 1956 factory brochure for Cadillac.
(Ken, WHO do I send the brochure to get it into our FG library???)


I'd guess that "the bottom line" is: IF you ask enough people, in enough places, that you will likely/eventually find the correct answer(s).
