Guys,

I'm getting closer to getting my Alumacraft on the water but I'm hoping to get some educated information on proper cleaning and care of the windshield. Thoughts?

John Gamill (JAG) did an excellent article on this subject, including what materials to use, etc.. I think it's even posted on the main page, but can also be found in the Research/Restoration section of the site, here's a direct link;

You're welcome guys, glad to help. Several observations I've made through my own experience:
1. With older plexiglass be careful not to apply too much pressure when buffing it out. If you push too hard and cause it to bow, it can cause small "crackle cracks" that look similar to safety glass that has been compromised. Once it does that the game is over, when you're trying to look through it when the sun is beating down you can't see squat!
2. Always clean with a very soft cloth (diaper or micro-fiber towel) and never rub it dry with a paper towel. It acts like sand paper and will lead to needing to do the entire process over again.
3. Rain-X or even a light coat of wax/polish will help keep the windshield clean, helps prevent dirt, bugs, etc. from sticking.
