...before? At first I didn’t realize it’s a Quicksilver steering wheel until I saw the center cap up close. This wheel is aluminum too just like the vintage Quicksilver and Ride Gude steering wheel that we know. It was never my intension, but in the years that I have been in this hobby, I seem to have collected a few vintage boat steering wheels. With this particular Quicksilver wheel, I’ve never seen one before even in pictures. So I’m asking if anyone here know or have seen one of these Quicksilver wheels. About what year did they make these? Thanks for you help.

Ah man Gil, that Crestliner is sweet and that Quicksilver steering wheel....very nice. What year is your Crestliner Commander? And what year is the motor? Did the Crestliner come with that Quicksilver steering wheel?

My friend has a '54 Crestliner. She's almost done. The picture you see is his boat. You can't see it in the picture but this old girl has a wooden center deck. He's done a really nice job just cleaning her up. All the wood is original.

Thanks for sharing your picture. If you don't mind, could you please post more pictures of the wheel and motor? Would love to see more of the completed restoration. Thanks.

Thanks Frog. My favorite aluminum wheel is the vintage mechanical Quicksilver steering wheels. I had one on a former G3, and a second on my '58 Bell Boy Banshee. The latter, I used with a modern steering cable. Works great.

Eduardo,
The Crestliner is a 1954 Model and the Wizard motor is a 1956.
The trailer is a 1954 Mastercraft. I bought the wheel several years ago at a flea market. I will post some before pictures of the boat tomorrow...........it was a mess.
Thanks for the kind words............Gil

Thanks guys. Here are a couple pics. of the Crestliner when I got it. It sat leaning against a garage for over 20 years. Frog, yes the center deck is factory and is aluminum with a wood dash.
I had a similar boat in the early sixties that I ran with a Mark 55...............fun ride.

Eduardo,
If you think that you like the pic of Gil's Crestliner,Outboard and Trailer, you have got to see it in person! You would not believe the masterful craftmanship that Gil has done with both aluminum and fiberglass boats, and outboards. His Brother is also an unbelievable detail painter. They are both true Masters in restoration!

Gil,
I am looking forward to seeing your newest creation on the water this spring and/or summer! We will be doing a boat show and get some of our boats wet together.

To all:
I was over at Gil's and saw it yesterday and it is very close to being ready for the water.
You will not believe how he has brought her back to life!

Gil here is a shot of my 1954 Crestliner that Eddie showed earlier. I was very lucky that all her wood is perfectly original. I now need to repaint the pin stripes on the dashes and seats.

Thanks Split for that information. That patent drawing of the wheel is ridiculously cool. I see where this wheel gets it design from. Now I know about what year the wheel is too. I've learned something new about these very cool Quicksilver wheels and the Mercury Mark 50. This is great. I talked to a local guy last night who knows a little about Mercury and he said from the early 40s, Quicksilver used that same crown insignia. Thanks again.

Gil, that's incredible work you have done on that Crestliner. Well done sir.

What color was the wheel when you acquired it? I like the red a lot. If I redo mine, that will be the chosen color.

Just from the pictures Stevie, I have to agree; the craftsmanship is stellar. Gil did a wonderful job. To see in person, well, one can appreciate the work even more.

Norm, that steering wheel with the three spokes and the mounting helm design is very cool too. Did it come with the Bodie Knob? Who makes that wheel?

I found a boat with your same wheel on CL, sorry I hi-jacked your post. I would still be very interested in finding out more about these wheels.
