TOPIC: Please help! ID needed

Please help! ID needed 10 years 6 months ago #91009

Can anybody help me figure out what my boat is? It looks like one half Glastron Fireflight and one half Redfish. The top of the fins is flat.

Scollibud,

WELCOME ABOARD.

As to the identity of the boat, there are so many "knock-offs" of Glastron that you may never know FOR SURE, absent documentation. - Best wishes on your hunt.

Scollibud,

There was a least a THOUSAND "small & independent regional boat-builders" in the 1955-65 era (OVER a HUNDRED such small/independent companies were once just here in TX) & the vast majority of those started out by buying someone else's hull & essentially "cloning" it. - SOME of those "cloning folks" changed NOTHING, except "trim items".

IF it was me & I was in CO, I would start by "crawling around in the boat" with a good flashlight looking EVERYWHERE for a "tag" of some sort.
If that careful search turns up "nothing", I'd try looking for a list of CO boat-builders, with your Secretary of State's office.
(Who knows? You just might get lucky.)

GOOD LUCK, satx

Scollibud,

It is certainly an early boat. That particular rub rail was pretty much phased out by 1962 in favor of aluminum with rubber inserts.
The boat is unique enough to be desirable. The white merc is desirable as well. Depending on your resolve to restore it, is an excellent candidate. Have you researched the registration numbers on the boat with the state?

Thanks Morris. There are no numbers anywhere, besides the ones they assigned to me on the bow. The Merc is a 61 500 and it runs, just needs a tune up. Thanks for all your help. Scott in CO

scott...she is a great looking boat....well worth restoring...5 or 4 boats have showed up with that same disappearing side spear but they all had rounded fins....red fish made boats for western auto for a while under the wizard name with a flat fin like that but without so much arch to it, but they had the indents in the bow....you probly have a very rare boat...john

Thanks for the help John, and group. Posted a couple more pix in case somebody comes across this in the future. The pivot-able trailer is from a 1962 Lonestar. I bought it for $100, kept the trailer, bimini top, and Mercury 500. Gave the Lonestar boat away with my old homemade trailer.

Last one I promise!
This is the drain for the front seat. This boat has a sealed hull under the floor, and is said to be unsinkable. The water drains through the tube to the transom bay via through the sealed hull. All the wood framing and floor have been restored (it was all rotted), and re-glassed, ready for carpet. Now that the motor is running, I can concentrate on paint, body, and interior work. I will keep her the original teal and white.

Scott, nice find on ALL your collection (especially the boat!). The Merc and upgraded trailer should make nice additions to the setup, looking forward to seeing more pics as you bring her back to glory. ;)
