TOPIC: Am I an old boat-aholic ?

Am I an old boat-aholic ? 10 years 7 months ago #89655

It’s pretty bad when, you know you will making a long weekend trip to the East Coast in March, (Virginia Beach in fact)
And the first thing I do, is check Craigslist to see what king of boats and motors are around there ? I don’t need one, not going to buy one,
But just checking for one….. I even went through the 12 step boat buying rehab already ?
How do you kick the addiction ?
I guess taking an under powered, hitch less economy car that can’t get out of its own way, to make sure I can’t tow anything home ?
Maybe it’s just cabin fever, and the urge to get started on a boat project ?

I would consider it as doing some recon for the rest of the old boat-aholic universe. Just keep telling yourself that and it will come true.

Chuck as a former Buckeye and a Old Boat Pack Rat. (OBPR is now classified by the CDC). I know where there are several Old Boat Junk yards here in Tidewater VA. And of course I have an old boat junk yard behind my garage as well. Come on down we will hook you up.

I hope my wife didn't see your post Morris. Because she'd twist it and tell me to hook a boat up in my yard and drop it off....... at your place

Now it's gonna cost double for all that gas to go back and pick up what you buy!

Mine would go to great links to include ME w/ the boat in the drop off.....................

I know of what you speak, all to well.

Don't need any more boats, can't find time in good weather to work on the ones I have. Have 3 calls out for 3 I 'found' while doing recon for others. None of the 3 are remotely similar to what I was asked to help find..................

Yep, made a trip to Huntsville Al last week from Maryland and the first thing I did was look at Craigslist to see if there was anything good in the area. Not sure how the hell I was going to get it back home but hey always an excuse to go back with the truck right!?!?!?!?!!??

What we 'need' is a nationwide, vintage boat underground railroad. Helpful 'conductors' to hide them until the next leg of the journey is prepared..... B)

hey talking about alabama there are a lot of casinos around that part of the world . you can make it a vacation and let the wife spend some money and you can pull a fixer-upper back too.. she might never notice it back there. hahaha

I think that is quite normal behavior for those of us who are blessed with this affliction! I travel frequently for my work and I find myself in checking the Craigslist ads for boats all of the time. I think it is interesting to see asking prices, boats that are indiginous to their respective areas etc. I enjoy seeing and finding different boat brands that I have yet to discover. Anything boating oriented is always welcome!

I am a shopaholic and a boataholic. I cruise through the local Used Everything and if I find something thats low priced, I am interested. Currently I have four projects tucked away in the yard and more stuff in a tin shed. I should start a marine second hand shop if I were not so busy. Being retired is hard work!

Greatest thing for searching is Craigslist app for Apple IOS - probably same for Android. You set it for the Craigslist cities you want, plug in a search (in my case MFG) and up comes all the MFGs within my search area. It's how I found my Niagara in PA. I still look while walking the dog, even though my self-imposed rule is one boat at a time. Fun to see what's out there.

The underground railroad for boataholics or maybe the term should really be projectoholic is a great idea. before I ever got my performer I was given a 26 ft lyman. I am running out of places to hide it. I claim the performer as my first cause I never told the wife about my real first. also its more likely to see water first .

A network of husbands helping husbands with less tolerant wives. A friend and I once stored each others project cars for each other at the same time. we figured (after a few to many beers ) that by doing it that way we were not fibing to our wives about having brought home another project. my ex was not a tolerant woman. it even worked for a little while. until the two wives decided they could be friends again. that was a sad day. and a little scary.

I have discovered a great rehab for being an old boat-aholic. Try 4 months of filling, sanding, filling, sanding, sanding, sanding, priming, mixing, sanding, sanding sandingsandingsanding!!!
Right now, you couldn't give me another one. Like the next morning when the drinker swears it off. Haha

Why leave the states when you can just send the money and have it shipped? LOL

I was thinking along the lines of taking a cruise ship to Hawaii with the wife, and when they let you off the ship you go buy it and tie a line to it and toe it home. Now that is thinking out side the box if I do say so myself.

You can slip that engine on and motor back. It works with my garden tractor cart. You be surprised how much it will push.
