I picked up a 1962 Kiekhaefer 1000 I am looking to get restored. I have a Dorsett resto-mod restore. ANyone know of a west coast company the restores these old motors.

It is not running now bit turns and good compression on all cylinders. Parts all seem there bu many wires are off or loose.

What I am looking for is a full restore service paint and mechanical. I live in Chandle AZ.

Thanks

We stayed in Chandler, AZ a few years back...flew out there to see Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme at the Sun Dome. We stayed in a great old retro-hotel, the San Marcos, built way back before WWII. We even managed to catch the Ostrich Parade. Great town and nice and warm this time of year.

I can "third" that motion!

I've seen the Good Dr's restoration work Up Close & Personal and can vouch for the fine work he does in keeping these old motors alive.

Hasn't been that long since he restored a '62 (as I recall) Merc 1000 that was "barn fresh" and purty nice already, but the guy in England restoring a classic race boat wanted it REAL purty, and seeing that motor after the restoration, and another of similar vintage sitting together was a rare treat indeed!

You can send Thom a private message via this forum, and I'll send him an e-mail in a few to let him know that his services may be required!

Meanwhile, feast your eyeballs on these 2 beauty's:

Thanks for the responses and especially the taunting of the twins. That was a little mean. LOL. Nice set of twins.

I went on this my own. I sent out the paint parts to a hot rod painter that is into boats for the paint and that is fantastic. There was a small crease in the cowl that he was able to work out and it is better than new.

Now the motor.

SO far so good. I am on here now searching through the old post on setting the points. Through Furgenson I was able to get the mercury point setting kit.

Back to the search.
