TOPIC: 1964 Dorsett San Juan

Last year I found a San Juan on craigs, drove two hours to Reno to look it over. It was being sold for storage fees, it was dirty and had not a few dead animals in it. The young man asked me if I wanted to start it, not willing to waste a long drive I agreed. although I had no doubts that there would be a lot of blue smoke and backfires involved. I hooked up the muffs and turned the key, three engine revs later (and to my surprise) it fired up and began smoothly idling. It was too late for me, I had fallen for this little boat. After I handed over the 200.00 for it and started to walk outside to hook up to my truck, the young man followed me out and handed me a three ring binder with all the paperwork in it, The original owners manual, service manuals for the engine and drive, parts books and most importantly a reciept for a complete out of boat rebuild on the engine. New pistons,crank,linebore..everything.
included in the reciept was one new hourmeter. I tilted the engine cover and read the numbers on the meter.....10!
Looking aroud the web I don't find much in the way of 1964 San Juans, much less with a 140 mercruiser I/O. Is this not a very common boat? Or am I just missing it?
Long story short... I love that little boat and would not trade it off for the world.

I have a 67 Dorsett Catalina. Mine is slowly in process.

I have two of those mercruiser 140's in my boat. They are a 3.0L Chevy. Still used today in fact. It is a stroked 2.5L (merc. 120). Good stout little motors from what I have seen so far. Just finished rebuilding the second one, pretty bullet proof engines with gear drive camshaft instead of a chain.
