Here's a little cutie I picked up yesterday...a 1981 Glastron Carlson Scimitar. She needs "the works" but they're scarce and just don't become available very often, at least not this far east. I figured I'd better take advantage of the opportunity before it disappeared. Hopefully, I can find a new owner who'd like me to give her a complete "make-over" and a heart transplant. A 450 HP big block driving a Bravo III should do the job.

Holy Cow! I saw that boat today over in Walhalla. I said "Wow, I have never seen one of those around here." I was right in front of you pulling into Ingles... what a small world. That will be a magnificent boat to restore.

Glad it went to a good home Jan, I'd been watching the Ebay auction on that one as well! (Out of Gainesville, GA right?)

Yes, I got it in Gainesville. It didn't sell this past time on Ebay for his opening bid so I contacted him after the auction, made an offer and a couple days later he decided to sell...never hurts to ask.

Nautilus, I have some experience with this model. I have two friends who have this model and color. Trust me, the factory 350 Mercruiser 260 HP is the perfect powerplant for this hull and perform pretty well. It is a good looking boat that you will enjoy! I will be in your neighborhood at Christmas as I have family in Sullivans Island.

Here's a link to the latest rebuild on Ole Red's site, very near completion. It was sold to a gentleman named Gary, who commissioned Red to handle the restoration as well.

Congrats on the great score Jan, that's the "holy grail" to Glastron / Carlson enthusiasts for sure.

Extremely interesting restoration! Ole Red definitely seems to know what he's doing...and does it well. (I wonder if he wants a job in SC?!!!) Anyway, thanks for the web address. I'll steal as many ideas/procedures as I can!

In the SIghtings forum $500 for the pair.
PS ,While you are in everyone barn, keep a eye out for older Honda motorcycles.

Yes, I have always liked "coupes." Back when I was restoring antique cars from the 1920's, I always seemed to buy/restore coupes. I appreciate the leads from Mark but the Scimitar took all my "venture capital." You have to understand that to my wife, "It's just another stupid boat that doesn't run." That statement was followed by, "I don't have anything to wear," "We've needed a new toaster for 6 months" and "I never buy anything like that," etc. Also, my "junkyard" is full to capacity. In addition to that, Christmas is coming and we're going on vacation in January. While it's true that my wife can't make me do anything, she can sure as hell make me wish that I had done it. I don't want to sleep alone or be served spaghetti without sauce for the next month. Further acquisitions will be entirely dependent upon her mood swings, hot flashes, etc. "A man's got to know his limitations." - Dirty Harry

This is one of Red's creations. A Glastron GT 160 with the dash moved back 18". There's a lot more than just putting in a big motor. Red loves to talk, give him a call.

You're a genius. I'll keep your advice in mind and I look forward to some day becoming an expert boat restorer with all the answers...like you. Thanks.
