Hi guys/girls new to this site as I'm more of a wooden boat man but at the weekend I picked up this 50's microboat built by microplas who used to make fiberglass kit cars, I have been posting on a few forums looking for any info on it before I restore it she is not much to look at I know but she has a little something that cough my eye.
Any help or info would be great thanks.

Thanks, If your anything like your profile picture I think it would suit you. I found a little clip of one at a 1962 boat show www.britishpathe.com/video/take-to-the-boats-aka-national-boat-show

All primed up with Pre-kote, now what colour to paint it I have some red, white and black left over

As we are having a bit of good weather I decided to do the painting.

This is the look I went for.

I also made a little dash.

The finish isn't too bad so I don't think I'll go through the fine sanding and polishing as I will be using it just for a bit of messing about :D

It puts me in mind of the "flivvers" that were used by ski show clowns, although a little more enclosed. Looks like fun.

Nice color combo BTW.....

I forget where, maybe the Glen-L website, that I have seen your Crackerbox build. VERY nice. Wish I had your skills and determination.

How big is that thing - it looks really tiny!

I once owned a tiny boat - a Buffalo Mini Boat, made by the Buffalo Mini Boat company in Buffalo, NY. They were in business from about 1987-late 1990. I had one of their last boats - HIN had 91 model year on it, and made out of moulded ABS plastic.

It was 6 1/2 feet long with steering. Mine was powered with a 3 1/2 hp Tohatsu with a lawn mower throttle cable I had rigged up using a bell-crank, and could hold an adult plus a little kid. I even had it on Lake Erie twice inside the break-wall off Cleveland.

Sold it to a buddy who had a good sized pond in his backyard. He still has it.

That paint scheme of red and white is excellent! Fits very well.

What outboard do you plan to use with it?

Many of us are not as familiar with the possible British outboards that would go well with this boat.

The boat is just under 7 foot and I have been playing around trying to convert this 3.9 merc to remote. Down the road I would like to get a little red and white Johnson seahorse as I think it would suit it better. If I was to go British it would probably be one of the seagull engines "not very pretty" and I'm not just saying that because I'm Irish :)

A red and white Johnson would be nice.

When you get it on the water, board carefully. A boat that small has little lateral stability, although the sponsons at the stern should help. I capsized my little boat once while trying to board from a dock. I suggest having some friends hold the boat steady, if you do board from a dock. It's much like getting into a canoe.

Have fun!
