for me that is. I was given this boat last weekend. Title says, 15 foot, 1963 Glass Magic with a 1959 Evinrude Starflite 50hp motor. Last on the water in 2000.

Super cool boat! It looks like its all there. I had a wise man say to me once... "there's no such thing as a free boat."

Thanks for the welcome. Here it is a almost a week later. Currently rewiring bumper to bumper, everything works. Then on to the motor, going to try to get it hammering, sell it and get something better. More cleaning this weekend.

To clarify, I want to get the motor running so it can be sold, then get a more reliable one. Leaning towards keeping the boat. The more that I work on this thing I can feel a relationship starting.

My boat looked just like yours, trees and things growing out of it.
I thought the same thing about my motor, a 73' 65HP.
Well after 5 years on the water and no real issues to complain about, I am hoping for another 5 years on it. I was saving for a new E-Tec. Once educated, there is little chance I would ever buy a new motor.

How about a 2003 Honda. I had a more reliable one that was old. I've had the Honda since it was less than a year old. I had less problems with my old Mercury. That Johnnyrude you got there now is both reliable , easy and cheap to work on. Welcome aboard. Rebuilt that carb and fuel pump with alcohol resistant rebuild kit parts and replace the hoses and drive it another 40 years.

I like the idea of keeping the motor. Outside of being a gas hog and heavy polluter it is way kool. I have a fuel pump kit coming. The carb kits run from $30 for old stock to $74 for new. Never done a carb before, is it difficult? What is a good supplier of rebuild kit? Thanks for putting up with me. I might be here awhile.

I came here several years ago. It's in my blood now. Better RUN. Try this member out. I'm going to order some parts from him. www.fergusonpoolemarine.com/ I'm pretty sure other's here can help too. I have to get some parts I needed last winter.

Check with NAPA. You would be surprised at how many parts they can get for these old motors..

First welcome aboard, sorry was on vacation all last week with no internet. Anyway, I have the same motor and it's been great. Been in the family since it was bought new in 1960. I've been getting all my parts from marineengine.com

If all goes well I will be turning the key on the Fat 50 next weekend. Steering and wiring are almost done. Should be able to put it in the water before December.

I am looking for some parts. Not having any luck. Any sources out there for the parts in the pics? Thanks in advance.

rdubyau,

WHAT exactly do you need?
(LOTS of "fat fifty stuff" in a "junk yard" here in San Antonio, including some NOS parts.)

yours, satx

Try these guys, They had a stable of old boats that they stripped and are selling parts online. Very possible they have the simplex part you need. Call Joe and tell him Cal sent ya. Bargain with him cuz he'll probably charge more for the part then he paid for the whole boat :)

Finished the stern to bow rewire today and decided to turn the key. No fireworks!!!. Turned over beautifully.

Tomorrow will be spent fixing the No Spark condition. I will be looking for help with this one along with researching the pages of this forum.

Five stars goes out to Joe Poole Jr. from www.fergusonpoolemarine.com for hooking me up with some of my needed parts.

The boat work has been a little slow but here are a few pictures showing the new gas tank/battery support area with the new battery box with digital volt meter and all the hardware to secure everything in place. New paint on the cowling and remote. I had to remove the storage area on the port side due to some rotten plywood. I replaced it with a non OEM grocery cargo net. I also need to need to put the primer bulb a little closer to the motor. Just about ready for the water.

Smokin'!
Those cargo nets come in handy for other things too. I had one on the Sabre to hold the throwable.
Beautiful job, now if you can get the kids out you can reclaim it :)
