TOPIC: ok waiting on the rain...... what is it?????

ok i removed this from the port side where the head was. and there was a thru hull port (inlet maybe) next to it. i was wondering what this was and its purpose. my thought was sorta a overflow for the waste tank. liquid run off. but i am curious ... does anyone know and do i need it replaced, or something else better. i am watching the rain i have blankets in the boat covering up the unfinished floor. my canopy is dripping from where the frame got rusty and rubbing holes in the new canopy. just a little drip but i dont want to get anything wet. thanks in advance

C.B.B. I think you really answered your own question
with a inlet for a long a go outlawed front toilet.
If there were two inlet & you have a large boat , then one
was used for a sink. (?). Strainer grate would block any
grass / trash.(?) I see the classic W.C. logo for Wilcox -
Crittenden Conn Mfg. Discharge usually went out the side of the hull. IMO

It is still legal to have sea water intakes for marine toilets, just that once the water is taken aboard it must be held in a holding tank.

My shower on my sailboat had a Y valve. Wash with sea water and rinse with fresh water the intake was T off the toilet intake

That is also used to as an intake on a sailboat that uses sea water to cool the motor, both raw water through the motor, or raw water through a heat exchanger.
