Just about have the transom all cleaned out and then I'll finish taking up the floor. Not hard, just tedious.

What influenced your decision to use Seacast instead of the traditional wood transom? What resin will you be using...Poly or Epoxy?

Long delay. Haven't really touched the boat, but plan to start again on it next week.

I know there's lots of debate on wood vs. Seacast. Seacast seems to be stronger and it won't rot again. It seems like the costs have come down on it as well. Now you can get five gallons for about $220.

Any insights and ideas are appreciated.

I got a kick out of your "Lessons Learned"!
I'm looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with the red gelcoat. I have a 1960 13' Leavens with, what appears to be, the same amount of oxidation. I used Meguiars Mirror Glaze 4 - Professional Heavy-Cut Cleaner with a 10" wool pad on a variable speed angle polisher. Having the boat for over 30 years, this has worked best (although, other attempts have been somewhat feeble)! I think a couple more times with his product then a good wax should do it. the only problem are the numerous spider cracks that are left behind.

What is the condition of your gelcoat and what are your plans for restoring it?

Bill,
We are really enjoying your posts! My daughter (15yo)bought a 72 Steury (looks nearly the same as yours!) last year and we will be completely redoing it this spring. You are our inspiration:)
Keep the pictures coming!
Dave
