TOPIC: New member looking for a boat

New member looking for a boat 11 years 3 weeks ago #83899

I recently moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. I am looking for a classic fiberglass boat around 23' long that is a I/O. I would prefer an open bow. Any suggestion on what make and model to look for? What 70's or even 80's models will become classics in the future? Hold there value or even increase in value?

You won't find a "classic" bow rider, that I am aware of. Bow riders became popular in the mid 80's which eliminates them from classic, unless it's a triple cockpit 30' or so woody. The only way most boats increase in value is if you buy it so cheap that when you re-sell it you make a few bucks. 99+9/10ths of boats depreciate each year and the classics have so much $$ into them that the seller is lucky to break even.Maybe look around for a decently priced B-rider and then keep looking for a classic that you can work on at your own leisure. It's okay to own more than one boat.

Boats are not investments, they're expenditures. We take turns caring for them but must pay for the privilege. If we somehow manage to turn over the responsibility to someone else who is willing to pay an amount equal to our outlay for that privilege, it's a rare exception, not the rule.

The bottom line is calculated in enjoyment and pride of accomplishment, not dollars.

If I could predict which boats would become collectible classics that would be guaranteed to appreciate, I'd sell the information for big bucks, go back to Tahiti and live in a grass hut with a couple vahines!

Actually, bow rider tri-hulls were popular in the 1960s. Most all boat manufacturers jumped on that band wagon. Even Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. had a tri-hull bow rider by 1969. They were late in the game.

The V-hull bow rider came later.
