TOPIC: Title question for my '68 MFG

When i bought the boat it didn't have a title. The owner had the original bill of sale with his dads name on it. Which i now have.

The notary asked if i wanted to title it and i said "no if i'm not required to" Why spend the money?!

So, should i have had it titled? Are there any reasons to have it titled?

In PA you need to title a boat if:


Powered by an inboard motor, including personal watercraft, 1997 model year or newer.
Powered by an outboard motor, 14 feet or longer, 1997 model year or newer.
Currently titled in Pennsylvania.
Currently titled in another state when Pennsylvania becomes the state of primary use.

Mine did not fit any of those criteria.

So, should i title it?

I didn't. Mine is 13 foot. I'll have to check my Winner. It is 15 foot. It is still in my son's name. He lost interest. I'm in Kittanning, Howdy Neighbor.

I see NO good reasons to title an old boat/motor/trailer UNLESS you are FORCED to.
The title law in TX has accomplished ZILCH, except to make it a PITA to try to title our ANTIQUES, that were NOT titled when the law was passed. For example, there is an "elderly aluminum boat" (probably, from the design about 1945-50) on our family farm, that I'd like to register, and I cannot as my late uncle bought it over 50 YEARS AGO (the boat was willed to me) & I have NO idea where the bill of sale or anything else is.
(fwiw, I'm pressing my state rep and senator to EXEMPT every watercraft over 25 years old from that UTTERLY FOOLISH law, which was passed for ONE reason = $$$$$$$$$$ for the state to waste on NEEDLESS NONSENSE.)

If you have possession of the boat in Pa you can apply for an abandoned boat title through the fish commission.

satx next time you're in pa I'll buy that boat from you for a buck and sell it back to you for 0.50!

We have the most beautiful river valley. I have only been on the river about five times this year. I've been fishing Crooked Creek Lake. At the speed of my 8 horse Honda it takes a little time. Our locks are closed so we have basically what you call a string of lakes now.
