TOPIC: 12" Trailer Wheel- Tire Size

I dismounted all my tires last night in preparation of having everything sandblasted. I know the previous owner replaced the tires on the trailer in 2010, but I'm not sure if the size he chose was original. I was able to find a matching, vintage 12" wheel complete with the snap clips and (rusty) hubcap locally to use as a spare, and the old tire on it was larger.

4.80-12 was on the trailer
5.30-12 was on the spare, which came from a trailer under a '59-'60 boat.

I believe the larger size would fit in my wheel well, but I'm not sure what would have been original. Both of these sizes are readily available. Did these trailer wheels tend to have a common size used on them back in the day?

Don't know about back in the day. But my'68 Holsclaw under my '68 MFG has 530 x 12's on it and the spare too.

and look at page 17 of the 1962 trailer. It shows 530/450 x 12. So i guess either was available.

You're more likely to find 480's on 8" tires Jon. I'd go with the 530's.

Thanks guys, 5.30 it is. The 4.80 just looks small on there, not to mention the edge of the rim will touch the ground when the tire is fully inflated.

In the process of restoring my tee nee and went with the Coker White Walls these are 5.20-12. When I took the old tires off they were 5.30's .

The 5.30 does look much better on mine and fits just fine. Couldn't go with the Coker white wall because sadly it isn't rated for enough weight.
