She is the MAVERICK model. See the 1966 brochure:

Span America Boat Co. went belly up in 1962 after the move from Fort Dodge, Iowa to Red Wing, MN. A couple of the dealers "bought" the name and assets from the bankruptcy court and had boats made for them at Rice Lake Boat Co. in Rice Lake, WI. In late 1964 these guys and outside investors bought Rice Lake Boat Co. and formed "Span Boats, Inc."

They closed down and went belly up in 1968 or 1969 and had a liquidation auction in 1970.

Span Boats, Inc. and her predecessor Span America Boat Co. were very small builders. Therefore they never made many boats to begin with.

In the obituary of Chet Karstaedt (co-founder of Span Boats, Inc. in 1964) it stated he designed the first ever bow rider boat (which is the Maverick). I do not know if that is an accurate statement.

It has a Johnson Golden Meteor 100hp on it. I dipped it in the water for the first time this weekend and it ran flawlessly. The only thing I did to the motor is new plugs and cleaned and set the points.

Now I am working on buffing the gel coat and dolling her up some more.

I am up in Eastern Wisconsin.
