TOPIC: Lone Star Meteor year ID?

Lone Star Meteor year ID? 11 years 2 months ago #80772

Thanks in advance. Just got this Meteor and hoping to find out year. Has horizontal
tailight castings with ski tow holes in rear, right hand steer, no center console, dash is one long eyebrow, not the 2/3 seen on others. Only number is hand stamped in starboard side of alum cap plate over transom...860013.
Will post image when I get help with the tech soon.
Thanks for your help. Tony

I think....key word think....I remember reading somewhere that the first digit of the vin correlates to the last number of the year....not sure what the meteor looks like so I'd say a 58 in your case.

Garzilla is right, in many cases the first digit of the vin is the last digit of the year, but there are exceptions which have been noted to that "rule." I think it is likely true in your case, given your description.

If you go to the Lone Star group site: ( groups.yahoo.com/group/lonestarboat/ )
you can probably find a brochure or picture which matches your boat.

Nice find on a neat boat--hope you post some pix.

Garzilla and Shannon, thank you for the info. Have 1957 Johnson Sea Horse 35 but rather have a 1958 "premium" trim level motor like Golden Javelin or Lark or 58 Merc. Can restore or will buy finished..know of any?

Tony--I don't know of any for sale right now, but they do come up from time to time. Just so you know, the Golden Javelin would be a 1957, the fancy '58 Johnson I believe was called a Super Sea Horse. You also might look at '57 or '58 Evinrude Larks--two of the most beautiful motors ever made in my opinion. There was one on ebay recently.

Good luck,

Shannon
