Drug home another one. I guess I just had to have it... 1960 Lone Star 14' aluminum possibly a 'Malibu' or 'Coronado' (according to what I gathered from the outstanding Glassics Library). With a 40hp Evinrude Lark VI Selectra Shift. Last registered in '99, I'm not holding out much hope that the motor will shift, but I'll give it a try. One thing I noticed is that it's missing the alternator belt, anyone know if they're still available anywhere? The boat had about 4" of crud and old leaves in the bottom, and the mice had set up shop under the seats, then the ants moved in and built a thriving metropolis within the foam floatation. After about 4 hours of scraping and hosing out...it looks kinda like a boat again. I see that the screw in drain plug is also missing, anyone know if they're still available? The deck and windshield where just black, when I started... I'll try to post some pics

Drain plugs are a no go I believe.

Read on iboats about a guy getting a 7/8" fine thread bolt from McMaster Carr or l.a. fastener.

I'd think one of those rubber turn to expand drain plugs that was sized accordingly would work too but I dunno.

My ls came with the plug surprisingly.

55bigtwin,

FYI, go to an "old school" hardware store and look for a "replacement cap" for a small-neck Thermos bottle. = It's the RIGHT size to fit a LS drain-tube.

yours, satx

^^^^ that, is awesome!

I can totally picture it.

There was probably ten thermos bottles at my local good will store.

Thanks all for the help, I tried a couple plugs over the weekend, a 1/2" NPT pipe plug screws in, but it really needs a flange with a rubber washer, I'll go to the local commercial/industrial hardware supplier today, to see what I can find. It looks a 1/2" pipe 'straight' thread. I can't help but think that the plug could've been in the bottom of the boat somewhere, as I shoveled the crud over my shoulder into the brush... The good news is that I have a '58 Texas Maid 15' aluminum, that has the same plug. One of the previous owners had tethered the plug to the transom using a fishing tackle steel leader swivel, a very good idea!

A while back (2-3 years) there was a lot of discussion on the Lone Star group forum (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) about what plugs would work, and where to get them. I think there was a guy actually re-making them and selling them as well. You might try searching that site for more information.

Sorry, that was the email address. The group site is:

groups.yahoo.com/group/lonestarboat/

There is lots of good Lone Star information there.
