TOPIC: Lovely Sunset and Something Terribly Wrong

I didn't notice this until I moved this picture from my phone to my desktop. See the brown on the stern lamp lens? It seems my automotive lamp socket and 1147 bulb are a little too powerful/hot. And now I have melted my prized original bee-hive lamp lens.



I was able to unscrew the lens by twisting/breaking the glass bulb out of its base. I will be drilling out the melted part and fused glass lamp with a small hole saw and will be getting a less powerful socket w/ lamp. Also I will be watching e-bay for a new lens.



Does "fixing" things only to find the fixes cause more damage than good make me a real boater?

I'm dunno on "real", but DAMN sure going with "Experienced!"

In the spirit of making sure this doesn't happen again....Do they make LED "bulbs" we could put i there? I know the auto ones I've seen thus far for tail lights are way to big. Also, for those without generators, LED bulbs would not kill the battery for weeks.

LED is the only way to go. I am converting all of my trailer lights to LED and replacing other bulbs with LED as they burn out. They do make replacements for existing sockets, but check on the dimensions. Some of the bulbs are large. That being said, I did find bulbs that I could adapt to the vintage side lights on the CC trailer.

You can LED bulbs on ebay that fit many old sockets. Here is one I'm planning on buying. Or one like it.
