TOPIC: who knows this cool boat????

who knows this cool boat???? 11 years 3 months ago #79786

Hi guys!

Sooo many interesting thing to read/learn over here!

I'm new in the boating-hobby, and during my search for a (cheap) nice speedboat for fun (and wakeboarding) on the lakes/channels over here, I came across this casco speedboat (catamaran)

Problem is: owner got the boat from a friend, both don't know brand, model or year, papers and plates are gone....

Does anyone recognize this cool boat?

thanks

look at the curve at the side of the hull at the rear

thought it would be a powercat, but I haven't seen one with that a designed curve at the hull

lill_nemo1. Check out the Custom Craft section in the Glassics library. I am not good with Cat's but think it resembles a mid 60's Custom Craft Manta Ray.

It's not a Custom Craft (unless it is something I am not aware of). It could be a one-off. SOmewhere there is a list that someone made of the manufacturers that made cats. Not sure who or where.

My advice is to buy it. It doesn't matter who made it, the year, whatever. It's a cool boat and can probably be had for cheap. Never allow logic to interfere with a boat purchase. You'll drive yourself nuts and end up standing on shore watching illogical guys having a blast!

Yeah Ron that boat of yours is very cool

@ Nautilus

the guy asks 650euros for it.
that aint too much for it, but at the moment I'm not THAT loaded with cash to AND buy this one AND buy a speedboat that already can be used to go have fun.

If 200/300 euro, I would take it

Just hoped to know if this has a Brand/name or not

thanks guys

650 euros is WAY too high. That's a $300 boat...with a title! The problem is the mindset of people who are not in the hobby. They figure anything old is an antique, if not an outright classic. They don't want to be confused by the facts. They have arbitrarily set a value and you generally won't change their (alleged) mind. Best idea would be to offer $300 to his WIFE while he's off at work. I'll bet she'd take it in a heartbeat and you could be out of town by the time he got home! (...just thinking outside the box.)

Also consider what it would take to make it legal. If neither of the previous owners have clear ownership from the states point of view there is no way you should pay top dollar for that kind of headache. You want to be able to use it on the water. If you can't get the paperwork done you only have a trailer queen.

Re:who knows this cool boat???? 11 years 3 months ago #79871

yeah, I already (and I'm a REAL NOOB in this boat thing) thought 300 would be the max value for it as it is now.

And the wife would probably settle for less than 300 I guess, but mostly they know what he wants for it. And they won't risk a big fight for that stupid boat :)

And about the legallity thing: I live in Belgium, but I'm going to registrate the boat in the Netherlands.(I live at the border)
I could registrate it as "own build" or I can let someone make a id plate for it which says it's a POWER CAT something and they WILL accept it.

They just want to be able to see who's boat it is.

Greetz!!

The Art of the Deal 101: (I should charge tuition for this!)

Put $300 in your right pocket...another $50 in your left. Go take another look at the boat. Walk around it slowly, make a few "uum" sounds and shake your head side to side slowly. Scratch the back of your neck...slowly. Offer $300 cash as you HAND IT TO HIM. If he hands it back, make a few more sounds, mumble "I don't know," a couple times and take a few more minutes to repeat everything above. Start out with "I'll tell you what I can do"...and then sweeten the deal with the additional $50 from your left pocket that you HAND TO HIM WITH THE ORIGINAL $300. If he hands it back again, just say, "OK, thanks anyway and walk away. He might call you back. If not, use the same procedure for the next boat.

If you get the boat for your price, let me know and for $10 I'll send you a diploma. But wait! Close two deals and I'll send you three diplomas! Just pay separate shipping and handling.

Re:who knows this cool boat???? 11 years 3 months ago #79904

lol!

yeah, I know how this works.

I was talking about when only the wife is there.

Experience tells me (here in Belgium and Netherlands anyway) the wife has more impact when she's standing on the background: I tell the guy I offer x-euro's, the guy looks at the wife like "no way" The wife looks at him "please give the damn thing with him" and the guy agree's

Stupid thing is every time I like a car, boat, bike, ... that's for sale, it's more than 2 hours away of driving.
And I hate driving around again for nothing

When I finally bought my latest car, I just could have bought the first one right away. The money it cost me cause I've driven so much finding a car I could afford and was in the right shape, was almost as high as the extra cost to buy the damn thing

So I'm really hesitating to drive around again.
And when a seller tells you "yes, yes, it looks great! just come look at it, you won't regret it!" it means less than shit.

been seeing for cars that were just good enough for wreckage :(

Can you get a closer picture of the side near the back where the curve is.

I'll ask, but he seems not to respond to my email anymore

I asked him the name, etc. from the former owner, but he doesn't answer anymore
