I recently got a tach off ebay for my aristocraft and can't decide where to mount it(if at all). Haven't tested it yet,so I definitely have not cut my dash yet.I admit I'm a little wary of it,but always wanted a tach.Anyway, was wondering what you folks think on the location. I took some pics of some cut outs I made and placed them on the dash to get an idea of my options. All ideas very welcome on this,thanks.. The tach....
Idea 1..
Idea 2...
A pic of the whole dash...

Nice! I like idea 2. It looks like the ammeter is slightly off center, so this allows you to center the tach between the speedo and key switch. Then you can line up the ammeter on the left.

You didn't ask but... since you already have a hole. Cut a tach size hole in a piece if plywood. Then clamp the plywood to the dash to use as a drill template. That way your hole saw won't wander.

By the way nice boat!

I like the last one. One thing for sure is you can repair any holes you make and changed your mind. I fixed several in my dash. You can't tell they were there at all. It had some switch holes and old car radio holes in it.

The plywood jig sounds like a great idea! A hole saw wallowing around on the dash would be a very bad day lol. Thanks for the boat comment. Robert, my dash has texture on it I couldn't repair so I'm going to VERY careful lol. thanks

I had forgotten just how beautiful your Aristocraft is Jim! I believe I agree with Shacomm on the positioning, and your idea of checking it out before you drill the first hole. ;)

Jim, before cutting any holes in the beautiful dash you might want to make sure that it works for your setup. Tachs are finniky. If it's what you expected get the hole saw out.

I know this is a "sleeping" thread, but I finally installed the tach and thought I'd show it to you guys. I went with #2, everyone's suggestion and think it turned out pretty good.

I just cut mine in last week. I hope to finish the wiring tomorrow. How is the tach working? What model Airguide is it? Mine is a 653, it is for magneto ignition 2 or 4 cylinders. I have it on my '57 Evinrude 35 hp.

I just installed it yesterday, but I tested it on the engine at the house and it worked fine. It's a 654-A. jim

Thanks guys,I've had a couple days off waiting on another job to get ready. I'm now rehanging the control cables along the side under the gunwale a little better. They were falling down lol.
