TOPIC: west bend 18 hp cools but still gets hot

Today i started my west bend 18 hp outboard it runs good but gets very hot i runned it for about 15 minutes but got very hot. He squirts water out nicely but can someone tell me why it gets so hot?

Year and Model would be helpful (T-stat?), However part of the water jacket could be stopped up, Or the pump is worn. Replace the pump first and then we will go through cleaning the water jacket

I don't have a serial number there is nothing on the engine. But i will take a look at the water pump. Only he is pumping the water fast just like my 6 hp johnson, get these engines always warmer than newer engines?

It can be that it is too lean, or the timing can be a little off as well. But it sounds like it is possibly a couple things. I would redo the pump first if it is unknown when it was last done. I have seen motors pumping very well and still get too hot for comfort. Plus, yes in a sense they do run too hot to touch the cyls if that is what you are asking.
