Anyone ever seen one or even heard of one? dad bought one in 1956. Prettiest glass boat I'd ever seen, but got smashed to little pieces in the boathouse during a storm. I DO remember it was the worst handling boat we ever had - obviously designed by s stylist with no marine architectural training. Love to fins a pic though. Ours was red deck, white hull with red and white Mark 55.

Are you sure on the spelling? I can't find anything on "Sucajo". No old family photos, sales receipt, registration, title, or anything else? Where was it was bought from, where was it made, what company made it?

Can you sketch what you remember of the boat's design and post it?

No records of any kind. There was one single small ad in a boating magazine about 1956. Only ad I ever saw. That's the correct spelling. The boat was a beauty but had the worst hull design I ever experienced. When the storm smashed it, that was a blessing!

You were absolutely right! I found the Sucajo El Dorado, pictured in a Celanese Plastics ad from the Jan. 20, 1957 New York Times. Turns out it was made by United Engineering Co. of Gadsden, Alabama:

Great to see the progression of this thread. I turned up an article today in the Gadsden Times on the fiberglass boat manufacturing in the town:

I saw a small ad in a Motor Boating (I believe) magazine in 1956, and our one boat that was bought at Red Lane Mercury in Sheffield, AL. It resembled a Glasspar Club Lido but wasn't built NEARLY as well.

So it may have been made in Gadsden, AL? That, and it's terrible hull design could explain why it hasn't been heard of outside my hometown area!
