Hi all. I Have a 25' Cruiser with a 454 but I am looking at a smoking deal on a 1969 16' Blue Water with a Corvair engine. I have seen only pictures so far but will see the boat next week.

The seller doesn't have the title so it won't happen if I can't get the registered owner to sign an affidavit at the dept of wildlife.

From what I can gather on my web searches, it could be made by Larson (Glasspar)?

I have a Corvair so also interested in the boats powered by Corvair engines.

I've seen the Wayne 100's and the Corona's online but this isn't one of those. I must be too new to post a photo but it's in my profile photo.

Thanks for any advice!

Boats are a lot like Jello. Theres always room for more! :)

If you could please send a pic of the boat. The Corviar engine sounds really cool.

Howdy!
What state are you in? Some are easier to register than others. In WI it's like and under age kid in a bar, if you got the money they got the title :)

I'm in Nevada and if it has a title in a name other than the seller, I won't touch it. I called the Dept of wildlife and I either need the title or an affidavit from the listed title owner or I will never get it titled in my name.

I don't want to put a dime into a resto unless it's legit. Boat could be stolen for all I know.

If it doesn't work, I'll keep looking for a Corvair powered boat. I have a line on 2 others but haven't looked into them yet.

Wrong pic. The pic that I'm trying to post is my avitar thing so that is the boat.

OK this is the boat

One of the things I love most about this place (FG), is that I learn something almost every time I log on! Very cool boat poofdirt, and welcome aboard. I hope this deal works out for you, I'd really like to know more about this setup. Sounds like you've done your homework on the registration thing (or been there before), good on ya for checking that out first.

I had an Uncle who owned a '64 Monza Spyder (turbocharged) convertible, so you know where my mind wandered right off the bat. Those were air cooled motors right, any cooling for the exhaust in the engine compartment? Does it use an outdrive, or are they a true inboard? Very intriguing concept, hope to hear more. ;)

It has been done numerous times by FG members and I cannot remember that state or exact procedure. They send the info they have to that state and for a nominal fee you get a new registration for the boat. Now all you do is take that reg to your DMV. There should be a sticky post on this as it comes up about every other month if not every month and is common with these older rides. Someone should chime in with info or search it out from past topics.

The engine is air cooled and converted to "vertical" by using right angle intake manifolds. I'm sure they must do something with the oil pump also. This one is a true inboard. It is 60 miles away and the guy keeps putting me off so I may call him this morning to go look at the tires and get the hull ID and trailer plate number.

I bought it but dought that I will restore it. I was more interested in the engine (drive missing, bummer)

I will bring it home next week and dig deeper.

Only 96 of these engine conversions made and got the whole setup for $100.

Need the fix or replace the tires to drag it home.

No problem Poofdirt, glad to help. Looking forward to seeing some more pics of that interesting set-up! Good luck on your quest to find one that's restorable. That boat has some pretty nice lines IMHO, maybe you can figure out another way to bring her back to life?

Too cool not to bring it back. Hate to see rare old glassics die. I got a message last night from a fellow Corvair guy that knows what the drives were and he said we could make one.

Looking forward to getting this thing home!

Going to do cylinder soaks in the morning with MMO and try to start it Sunday....It may not ever make it to the lake but listening to an engine run for the 1st time after PO(s) ignored since the last registation in 1989 would be a sweet sound.

Hi Poofdirt! I wonder how many here know what poofdirt is. I live in Vegas. Do you run your boat(s) at Lake Mead? I have been enjoying the late Fall weather on the lake. It would be cool to meet another FG guy especially on the water. My avitar is in front of Hoover Dam.

Hi Phil..Yep Lake Mead and Temple Bar is my favorite area. We restarted the boating thing last year. Our parents both had boats when we were growing up in the midwest. I would really like to get this new find on the water, but it will take alot of work. Maybe we can meet up on the lake this spring in my non classic fiberglass boat?

I think I will have this oddball Corvair engine running tomorrow. Propulusion and steering are the only other issues...New pics here..

When I was 13 - 20 I did the VW Corvair rebuild thing. I'm really curious about how the oil sump works with the motor on end???????

I think it is found here:

www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=hot+rod+wayne+100+corvair&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&ved=0CEYQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.corvair.org%2Fchapters%2Fsouthcoast%2Fnews%2FCorvairBoat.pdf&ei=ApHGUMjTD6OSiAKIhoDgAg&usg=AFQjCNEgHlb-QdGuPuHGnvb5m-5syALZ2g

It uses a SBC pump.

EDIT: There is also a good Popular Mechanics article from about the same time, but having problems locating it.

Just here to report that the Wayne 100 has found it's spot in the back of our lot for now. No progress as I have other irons in the fire ahead of this one.

I removed the tie-downs from the trailer in case we get 4' of flood water here in the Mojave desert... :)

Hello Mr. Handy! I just dropped in here to thank you again for the valuable info that you shared with me! I can't thank you enough.

I have a question, are you experienced with this system? I need to rebuild the inboard and the torque-steer compensator looks to be molested. I will figure it out thanks to the info that you provided. I am not sure how you had/found this info as it wasn't available to me with all of my search engine tricks....Thank you again!
