So I was on the way home and this has been calling from the hedge row for a while. Old Winner with a 2 cylinder 35 horse (suprisingly still turns)very weathered and seems to be missing the wrap and faceplate. Was dragged out looking like it was destin for the dump so I asked and got a free old pile of parts to use. But any one know what year the old thing is? No papers forit.. suprisingly solid transom.
I will get the hull # when the water finishes draining out and the ice melts.. Can we have summer back yet?

Me thinks you need new tires.
Upstate has nice vinyards also, looks like you have a good start.
Nice find, I suppose some of the fellas on the merc site can help you out with the motor.

Transom is solid so that is just about 100 % good. If it is like mine. Mine is a Scorpion. Exact dimensions is buried in my head somewhere. If I find it i will post that. But it is 15 foot I think. Dash plate It looks to be almost the same animal. Your fore deck seems to be flatter and top is different but I bet you a stack of nickels the hull is the same. The splash rails are wood with brass bolts about 1/4 inch going through them, the hull and a cut and shaped 2x 4 for the seats. Right? Mine is a 1959.

Hey it included a radiator, a bunch of bad tires and vines!!! Robert, this one has a flat front deck and any model emblem on the dash is long gone but the id tag is there its just covered in ice from all the water that was in it... I think its at least a 15 foot. sadly no papers and its rough. I will likely end up cutting the old girl up and using its parts on other boats.. Still like to know what they are before I put them to rest...

I have dibs on the vines, mine does not have any.

I spend many holiday seasons in Germany, we brought evergreen vines into the house, to remind us of life. Where do you live that you put dead branches in a boat for Christmas? Michigan?

Those handles on the back are very heavy brass ones that clean up real nice. That aluminum rail where the top and bottom meet has a ton of brass bolts in them. The rail cleans up nice on mine considering how abused it was.

I undecorated this poor thing some last night it has about 6 inches of mud and gunk in it and thats all frozen.. I had hoped to find the wrap and faceplate for the engie in there sadly just a rusted out Merc tank. Engine actually has good compression but all the wiring is toast.. Ah well it was free and easy to grab trailer is in decent shape too. No Tags on it that I have found.

Engine Fired right up with a little re-wiring on this.. Boat was broken in the keel so we ended up cutting it up.. Its parts will eventualy go to some other projects.

When you cut that up was there core material inside the fiberglass? I'm just curious since mine is basically the same boat.

I think it was wood..I didnt cut it up.. My father did while I was at work. I will ask him and let you know. I can get a pic of the Model plate if that helps at all as we have that still.

What a damn shame. If you had found that boat before 2010 I could have introduced you to the guy that built it. Unfortunately he passed away in 2010.

Those old winners were really built. They were cutting edge technology back then. I know it doesn't look like it now but then it was state of the art.

Unfortunately, being broken and no paperwork it would have been hard to get on the water again. I hate cutting them up.. :-(

From what I read they were tough boats.

Stashm2, J.C. the model wasn't a Valiant was it? I have been looking for a Valiant model tag for a while. I have two Winners, a 57 Valiant and a 58 Sea Fire. The Valiant is a smooth gunwale boat and the Sea Fire is a Finned Boat. My ex-son in law took the Valiant tag off the dash to polish it up and lost it. Just wondering.

I'm glad mine is OK. Not perfect but serviceable.

Robert, I just asked my Father what the material was the boat was made of, He said there was no wood in it, the "stringers" were all fiberglass. Hope that helps!

Great news then to me. It seems to be solid as a rock.I can't wait to put it in the water and see how it performs. Thanks

Stashm2, It's good to hang on to the builders tag. I do that as well. I just had to ask.

Robert. Winner developed a system called grillage to reinforce the hulls. I do not know when that was but both the 57 and 58 have very strong hulls. I was once told that the Coast Guard Ticwan's were done in grillage hull reinforcement designed by Winner.

When I first looked at the boat even under the thick multiple paint jobs and dirt I was impressed. I first checked the transom and was totally impressed not having to replace it. My wiring will be run through the PVC pipe. It is not in place I just have it lying there.
