TOPIC: What is it?

What is it? 11 years 11 months ago #71315

[img]<a href="http://s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g377/rjparks62/?action=view&current=2012-10-2209513I bought a boat and trailer at an auction the other day and regardless of what the abandoned vehicle report says for the make and model I can't find anything on the internet about it. The info I have is that the boat is a 1977 fibertec runabout. The length is 18 feet. The trailer is a 77' caulkins. The boat is in great condition however the controls for the 650 mercury thunder bolt are too short. Meaning they do not reach the helm. Any info on the boat and motor controls would be helpfull! Thanks

Here is the MIC frorm the US Coast Guard. It appears that Wacanda Marine, Inc. of Colville, Wash had the MIC "WCN" thru 1976. The MIC codes get recycled after a period of inactivity. My guess is that your boat was made by Wacanda.

"H77" would indicate the boat was made in March 1977. Is there a letter "M" in the MIC before the "H"?

thomsonboat: the last 4 of the vin is m77h so yes there is an m before the 77. I did see a wacanda Baracuda 18ft on a wacanda website last night so I had a hunch. That is good to know. What Is the M for?

"M" in the code from 1973 to 1984 indicated "model year format" The chuckleheads that created the MIC came up with TWO systems. Manufacturers could use either one, their choice. One was "straight year format" and one was "model year format" The latter always contained the letter "M". There is a good article describing the system here in the Library.

In 1984 the Coast Guard streamlined the system and created a new single format.
