I pulled the carbs off my motor to rebuild them and while I had the covers off, I noticed a wire that was rubbed bare. When I touched the wire, it basically turned to dust. I believe it's a safety/ mercury switch.

My question is, do I need it and where do I get one? A quick search on the net, and I was unable to find a replacement...

Thanks,
oct.

If it's just a bare wire that is fixable. Cut the wire about 3 or 4 inches from the mercury switch and slide on some shrink tube, solder the wires back together and then shrink the tube over the bare part and your solder connection. If it crumbles right up to the blue part put the shrink tube as close as possible before you heat it and then spread some liquid rubber/insulation around the base. Both the shrink tube and liquid rubber are usually in a local hardware store electrical section.

Thanks,

It's the bare wire that was exposed, that turned to dust...
