TOPIC: Fresh Catch

Fresh Catch 12 years 1 month ago #68088

I seem to be in an orange boat phase these days. Used to be just red & white. Then it was aqua. Now they seem to be orange. I think I'll be keeping this one. It's an American Marc Stardust 1959 model. This is the 3rd one I've owned. This is a W I D E boat - tail fins are 79" tip to tip.

Nice find Bruce.
Boy there is just nothing made these days that even compares to the lines of these old hulls.

That boat looks like it's moving when it's sitting on the trailer. Nice find.

Inboard with chrome stacks sticking out. The lines made me think of something like that. Cool.

Neil,

You be pleased to know that a Merc will reside on the transom of this one. I have a '62 850 that is still yet to be put together. I have a '63 650 creampuff that just needs to be revived, a '61 700 that just needs to be brought to life, 2 Mk 55s, and a '61 800 that needs a full rebuild. My thinking is a MK75 or MK78 . Dockbusters are so dang cool. I've had 3 DRs but let them all go to a hardcore collector in Canada. They were all very rough. If I could find a nice DR 800 in Cloud White I'd probably go that route - as they are so light.

Wow. She's a beaut.

I see the 'Mako Shark' Corvette body in those lines.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

An 800DR would be right at home there.
Twin Mark 55's dressed in Sunset Orange would look sweet also if you are keeping the present color.
If memory serves, 33 inches should be min. for side by side 55's. Looks to be plenty of transom there.
Either way it is going to be a unique head turner for sure.

I messed around with this boat today when I should have been doing other things. One of my neighbors was kind enough to help me put one of my Merc engines on the transom. It's a '61 or '62 700 FGS. Long shaft - but it is just sitting there to get a look-see. I spent a couple hours cutting down a Seak King windshield to try fitting it to the boat. If you've never tried to change the angle or fit on a wrap around windshield - trust me - its a PITA. The plexi cracked in many places when doing the modifications. But I'll weld the cracks then see if we can duplicate this one with new material. I'm liking this look very much.
