I replaced the impellor in the 62 Merc 500 and did not barrel run at home. Put it in the water and she started right up, but after running about 20 seconds I notice no water out of the pee hole. (Insert vulgar word here) It is a 25 mile drive to this mudhole, with 11 miles of gravel. (Vulgar again).
Was wanting to see how the Wacanda handled and get a little time on the 500.
I took her out with the Big Block Minnekota 12 volt with the adjustable tiller handle just to see if she would float and see how stable she is while walking around in it.
I loaded her up and headed home with questions of why no water pumping. Back at home, pulled the lower and found the problem.
The cup was spinning in the water pump housing. The tab that holds the cup was bent over flat. I replaced the whole housing with one from a donor motor and she pees fine now.
I should have put her in the barrel before the trip! :(

Well I am glad to see I wasn't the only one to have a good weekend. Out on the lake running fine. Then all heck broke loss. Motor sounded like a rod was coming out the side of the block. By time I dropped the throttle it died.Big aww crap moment. Took the hood off expecting to see parts falling out. Nothing, everthing is where it belongs. I see the flywheel nut just about off. It had come lose at WOT. Luckly I had a 1 5/16 wrench in tool box. Got it tightened up enough to make it back to the dock. Got home and ran that sucker down tight with the old impact. I really like the size of your shop there Neil.At least you can go in all directions inside it. Looks good, Skip.

A guy has always got to carry tools for that "on the water warranty work". ;)
Glad you made it back safe.

Sounds like a few of us had a 'not so stellar experience'. My maiden voyage on sunday consisted of cruising a bout 1/4 mile around the bay at the dock. Everything was working fine. Took her out beyond the no wake bouys, she got up on plane at 11 MPH and accellerated to 30 ( watching the GPS) when she quite, fuel pmp stopped pumping. Full downpour with 20 mph winds away from the shore. Had to keep running back and pumping the carbs full, which gave me about 20 seconds of power. In the meantime the wind was turning my boat away from the dock, before I could fire it up again. Got her back to shore and walked her around to the dock. The motor ran great all winter long in the test barrel. Well, any experience you go through not only gives you a better insite. But a story to tell. By the way I bought another motor to use while I fine tune the original one.
