TOPIC: sandblasting fiberglass interior floor

sandblasting fiberglass interior floor 12 years 1 month ago #67785

I am getting ready to do the floor in my GW Invader and I'm seeing some using sandblasting to the old floor to prepare for the new glass and resin to adhere. I have always just used a grinder with a flap disc before but a quick sandblast sounds good to get rid of all the dirt and old balsa remnants. What media is used, sand, or something less abrasive? Any warning not to do this? Thanks.

I never used soda but I hear it is what you want to use on fiberglass. (baking soda)

Another thing I was thinking is the soda disolves in water so a flush and it's all gone.

robert-lorigan,

also, baking soda NEUTRALIZES any acids that MAY be in the hull.
(can you say, LEAKING BATTERY, children? SURE you can.)
