i went and looked at the rocket again, and the owner decieded to give me a price. he bought it new in 1958 and had a hard time in letting it go. was there 3 hours and agreed to his asking price. had to look at alot of pictures of his old boats. he sure had some nice ones.he is 77 years old and figured he wasn't going to do anything with it. but he is keeping the orginal owners manual that he got with it in 1958. i'am going to bring it home monday after work. i'' post some pic's of it then. it has been sitting in a barn since 1994. the motor is stuck, but i still have my 50 hp merc. needs some body work and paint. but it does have fins. frog

thanks guys, i think this one will be fun to do. no big green hairy frogs on this one, but maybe a little one. i'am not in love with the 75 johnson, and my merc is a 1966, maybe i'll look for a period style motor for ( what should i name her? ) littlefin is already taken. lmho

john i may have some more hardware for sale sa i got some extra with the boat. i'll go thru it and post what i do not need. i should have the deck seperated tommorrow nite, have some stringers to replace. the transom seems solid as i can really rock the motor and it does not flex. but i can check that out when the top comes off. i'll start a thread in the project section, cuz i'am going to take alot of pic's so you all can tell me what i'am doing wrong. lol thanks frog

Frog,

I am really glad that you decided to do a thread on fixing the old girl up. I can't wait to watch the progress.

By the way I use "littlefin" as my user name because they used to call me "The Little Finlander" years ago. So that means it's still up for grabs. And I for one think that it would be a perfect name for her. It describes her to a tee.

Now you got me thinking, I haven't named the Starcraft yet. Huummm.......gotta work on that one.

i had a friend in NOLA who named his boats: FOR YOU.
(same reason & i noted that he "didn't sleep alone much".)

fwiw, ALL my boats, as i'm an unreconstructed/unrepenitent REBEL to the bone marrow, are named for DIXIE "things" or people:

for example, my runabout is named: RICHMOND GRAY II
the 12x30M houseboat/barge that i'm currently planning to retire upon will be: CHICAMAUGA BELLE
and then there were: DIXIE BELLE I, II & III, which were "commercial fishboats".
