TOPIC: new here with a Classic DORSETT !

new here with a Classic DORSETT ! 12 years 2 months ago #64742

Well i wasnt sure where to post this. But i just picked up this dorsett its awesome looking kinda reminds me of an old car. But i cant figure out the year. Im thinking its a 59 el dorado ?
from what i found on google. Im just curious what it would cost around to restore this if i did the body and paint myself or what it would be worth to sell if i went that direction but id love to keep it.

here are some pictures. thanks in advance for the advice.

Welcome to the site donbjazzbones. That is a very nice looking Dorset there. You don't find many with all the trimmings on them. You asked whatther worth or if you should rebuild or part out. Well it is worth what ever you want it to be. First do you want to rebuild it to original or just something to get out on the water with? There is lots of great info on this site on how to repair these classics and plenty of menbers here to help you out. Have you decidedto go ahead with any plans yet? First ckeck the floor for rot and the transom to see if there is any rot in it. These are your 2 biggest areas to look at with a fiberglass boat. From there you can then decide which way you want to go. If you decide to part out the parts , you may find buyers for some parts aslong as you are reasonably priced. It would be wiseto look around the site first and ask afew more questions first. So have fun and keep us informed on your progress. Skip.

PART IT OUT? NO-NO-NO-NO!!!!

That looks way to nice to be ripped apart and sent to the ship yard in the sky.

Before you anything rash, or something we might all regret, PLEASE look at the past postings and ask some questions. If I can fix a fiberglassic boat anyone can.

Keep it. Fix it. Put an vintage motor on it and go drive the daylights out of it. Just be prepared to answer all of the questions at the docks. But have fun with it and share it with everyone.
That is what you get out of these old boats, regardless of what you put into them. But that's just me, kooky in the head about this hobby!! ;)
Here is my work in progress 58 Belmont.

very cool little boat. I love the teal and white, but I may be a bit bias. Good to see some fellow Idaho glassics around.

how many hp do you have on that dorsett Neil?i have a saun juan and it rated for 115hp but i have 2 1976 [less then 10hrs of use]150hp each and thinking putting both of them on.i know 1 plenty hp but 2 looks better if it doesn,t sink the boat.

Twin 400's rated at 45hp each. Zoom Zoom
I threw that picture up to hopefully prompt Mr. jazzbones to hang onto his Dorsett and use the heck out of it. Hope it works. ;)
