TOPIC: Looking for advice and opinions on rebuild.

The cutting and grinding are progressing on the Dorsett Catalina. The hull was cored. All the balsa was rotten. The center stringer was all the way to the keel and the balsa core butted up to the center stringer, all the other stringers sat on top of the core. Now the big question. A wiser man than I said we should run the balsa on the whole bottom then build up the stringers on top. I want to do it the original way even though it will be harder to do. Any opinions?

Any boats I've seen the core is under the stringers ( Hydrostreams / Challenger ), as you mentioned it would be much easier. Why do you want to go with the stringers to the bottom ? Another way to consider is removing the core and not replacing it just go with extra layers of glass, we did our Thunderhawk this way and it's worked out great.....just a thought.
