Hello boys,
Here's another question. There is an Omni Pitch prop on my '60 Johnson 40 hp. Know nothing about it ecxept that I see the pitch can be changed. Because of the moving parts and light weight pin that holds the pitch, would I be better off putting a standard prop back on? Thanks, Mike

Sounds kinda fragile. I'd use it to figure out best pitch and buy a standard prop in that pitch.

Don't mark my words but I seem to remember reading somewhere that this was actually a tool used to try a pitch on a boat to discover what pitch was best for the combo. If I remember what I read it was not to be used for regular use.

Thanks guys. I don't like the look of it and it does seem fragile. It is labeled at different intervals for different loads and conditions and may well be for testing. I will add buying a prop to the growing list of expenditures. Mike

mfgwiz,

presuming that yoiu don't want to keep it for later testing (for another boat/motor combination), after you find which is best for your boat, you will be able io sell it for some "pocket money" AND a new/rebuilt prop.

Is this what you are talking about? I have one on my Aqua Ray and it has performed fine. What these were for is to determine the proper pitch for the boat/motor combination so you can get the correct prop. I should finally do that this season and order the right one. Then I'll restore this and keep it around.

thetudor,
Yes, thats the same prop that I have. The markings on yours are a little different but the set pin, blades, and hub are the same. Thanks, Mike

satx,
Thanks for the suggestion. Things are starting to add up. That's boating!
