Ron:

There is an internet Airguide Source at www.classicboatwork.com/classicparts/gauges/airguide/Tach/airtach.html

I would think you might call them and find out what Airguide unit fits your application. If they don't have one they could find you one or keep an eye out for you. I have purchased two gauges from them and they were every thing they said they would be and more. The gauges are however expensive.

Good Luck

Ron, I'll let you do the homework :)
Here are the numbers:
On the face,
Very top reads (small) P-5079
Thousand RPM
Airguide outboard motor tachometer
Model 653 for 2 & 4 CYLHere's where you might find trouble. Chicago, Ill

on the back there is a plugged hole for a light, the (+) and (-) posts and below the studs "3FJ".
A paper sticker on the housing back reads B 9529.

That's all there is. If you want to make a fair offer and it will fit in a usps flat rate box for $6.00. I have no clue what it's worth so I leave it up to you guys.

I'm very impressed. That is a fine looking cluster of gauges. Inspiring, actually. That's the kind of stuff I really like to do. Refinishing the hull isn't all that fun, but wiring up cool electrical stuff is!!!

Hey, jeepstr...I too have a 653 like Sabres'. Mine is a flush mount. You like figuring wiring? Think we could work out a schmatic for a sender for the Airguides? Really interested how they work.

With only two poles on the back of the meter, + and - I was under the impression that the - would naturally go to ground and the + could be wired to one of the leads leading to the rectifier. Might want to go on the merc section, or omc and query.

From the little I have learned about them. They need a 'interface' device to convert the engine signal to what the tach reads. I talked to a guy who said he has build them and mentioned it takes designing a circuit with the right capacitors. I've been trying to find a schematic of the interface online to no avail.

I did analyze and build a cruise control button system using OEM style buttons fro my Willys wagon. As long as it is simple switches and circuits I'm pretty good at it. Electronics is a totally different animal.

Jepster, Now I really show my age. Back in the days....cruise control was a lever, cable on the dash that ran directly to the throttle linkage, like a lawnmower is today.
