Fantm58, nice! Are you going to put a support for the back? It looks like you have room on each side for a gusset. There is an upholstery class that is taught by a vacuum repair center that also sells sewing machines. The one I want is about $200.00. It will sew thru leather and thick upholstery. There is a 2 week seminar that their offering and I'm signed up. I'm anxious to see what color your going to make the seats and backs. Red and white? Something that happened to me. I made something like that for my '59 Merlin. After a while, those little feet that you have cut out, will start to dig into the hull. I put pads, 6"x6" under them, to even out the load. 1/2" or 3/4" is fine. Good photos, by the way.

Thanks
I would love to get am heavy duty sewing machine !
my wifes singer struggles a bit under load ??
I was thinking white seats with red inserts, waterfall pleats.
also I am making kick panels for the front area to conseal
my spaekers, and clean up the installation.
the feet are screwed in and glassed in, they feel pretty secure ?
but I think I understand what you are saying, i will keep an
eye on it.
as far as the seats. I am using 3/4" ply-wood for the base and backs
on all 3 seats, they will be removable for storage !

Looks nice! I did my own upholstery work, too... After struggling with a home sewing machine a bit, I broke down and bought an industrial one, there really is no substitute! You'll be amazed at the difference. My wife's machine was a pretty decent one, but home machines are just not set up for that kind of 'abuse'. I bought a Sailrite, which runs about $700- But I've got several projects to do with it, so I figure it's worth the investment.

What color vinyl are you going to use?

I looked at the picture a little longer. You have supports on the bulkhead uprights where it looks like a seat bottom will rest. So the people in the back will sit sideways. It looks like there was a lot of cleanup that you did to get to this point. Alot of boats and cars had that same theme in the fifties, two-toned. Weren't those the days.

shops to get her done !!

A good share of boats from that time period had loose cushions. Some had flotation cushions. I've see some that had a 1" wooden lip along the edge as a retainer to hold square throw-able cushions. Then the seat backs were upholstered. I've done most of my own boat upholstery. Actually it is rather fun.

Yep, mine is suppose to have removable ones also, just haven't gotten them done yet. Mine actually have a flap that wraps over the top of the bench seat and snap to the back, with a full cushion that sits on the bottom part of the bench.
