TOPIC: 1970 SternCraft catalog/manuals?

1970 SternCraft catalog/manuals? 12 years 6 months ago #58984

to all,

does anyone have SternCraft sales brochures/catalogs/owner's manuals/service manuals that they are willing to sell or make me color copies of?

if you do, please PM me.

i'm also looking for a complete/functional straight 1970 vintage six cylinder Mercruiser engine for my BALBOA 17, as i'm going to restore it to original. - the current 120HP "base" four is both INTERNALLY/EXTERNALLY cracked due to freeze damage (BOO HOO.) & the 165hp Mercruiser was an "option".

Sorry, no brochures.

Did some State of Texas corporation research.

Sterncraft Boat Co., Inc. was incorporated and registered with the State of Texas on 01 September 1965. William C. Bell was registered agent. They filed Articles of Dissolution on 31 Decemner 1970.

This makes no sense as the newspaper articles posted previously indicate they were still in business in the late 1970s. Maybe there was a corporate re-structure???

Texas charges money to do corporation research online thur their Secretary of State office. Most states do not charge a fee.

thompsonboat.

THANKS for trying. - i was told by an employee of the city tax office in Lewisville, TX(about 3 weeks ago) that the company MAY have been in business as late as 1984, as someone was paying property taxes, in the name of SternCraft, on the company premises.

These boats were manufactured by Newman Industries INC.I've found this information by Cdog on another forum. I have a 63' Newman. Just before going out of business, they moved from North Miami, OK to another OK town for a few years(late 70s to about 83, if memory serves). Bayliner bought the old plant and built boats there before moving production to Mexico. lately, the plant is being used to build boats for Tracker. This company also made another boat called Esquire also out of commerce Oklahoma. See link www.fiberglassics.com/library/Esquire

I am pretty certain that SternCraft in Texas manufactured their own line of boats and that Newman in Oklahoma was not making "SternCraft" brand name boats.

Newman was the builder of the "Esquire" line of fiberglass boats. They began operations in Commerce, OK in 1959. They eventually moved to North Miami, OK where their factory was leveled by a fire on 31 March 1966. They did rebuild.

I wonder if George Newman had worked at Blue Star Manufacturing Co. of Miami, OK prior to forming Newman Industries?

Ssure enuff, George Newman did work for Blue Manufacturing Co. He was a sales representative starting in September 1955. He came to Blue from Norton-Littleton (no idea what that may be).

A few years ago I launched an investigation on way there was very little information pertaining to these boats. Then I was informed by a gentlemen selling classic boats manuals around Indiana area that I wouldn't find much of anything searching Sterncraft. In the manuals it had my exact boat which I believe to be a 1963 Sterncraft. Unfortunately he's no longer in business but sold his entire collection. I'll launch another investigation here in Oklahoma and get to the bottom this with pics and solid info. Together I think we can solve this case.

Maybe Newman Industries was making a "Sterncraft" line prior to the Sterncraft in Texas being incorporated on 01 september 1965.

thompsonboat; Rasta; ALL,

actually i've found that there were TWO companies that made SternCraft boats. =======> a company in OK until the late 60s & an entirely different company in Lewisville TX. - i now have at least 4 pix of the OK SternCrafts & they look NOTHING like the TX SternCrafts. - one wonders if the OK folks sold the NAME (but nothing but the name)to the TX group??????? = the mystery deepens.

AND i'm still trying to get SternCraft brocures/catalogs/sales literature for my TX Balboa 17.

Satx do you have a pic of your boat up yet? My boat has a curved windshield I was told curved windshields were used up to the mid sixties. I assume mine is older than that.

Rasta,

fwiw, i "bumped up" the older thread that has a color pix of my 17FT BALBOA of 1970.

NOW, i'm wishing that i had one of the early "Okie-made" SCs.
