It's a little tough to tell from the photos, but you might need to take off the deck to do the transom. Perhaps not for the floor, but it might be easier.

Nice find on the Skagit Thad, congrats. I was about to comment that the transom looks to be fairly open, albeit a small opening in the motor well area. But looking at the way the seats are molded with the deck, I think separating the deck and hull would probably be your best option after all. It would really make both parts of the project mentioned more manageable, IMHO. We do have some Skagit expert members here, but I'm certainly not one of them. Hopefully they can offer some experienced advise, keep us posted on your progress.

Congratulations on a nice Skagit. I'm not a Skagit expert, just a Skagit lover.Especially the cruisers. Maybe Billr will chime in,he's speaks Skagit. Splitting the hull would be a time saver in the long run as well as ease of fitting the floor panels. There are always people here to talk you through the process or there may be some past posts you could search on this site. On the bright side you won't need to replace any stringers, all fiberglass.Good luck and post your progress.

Are you planning on doing a new wood transom, or are you going to do a composite poured transom? I did a poured composite transom on my skagit 20. The thing is rot proof now. I would be happy to email you some photos and descriptions if you like.
