cruising around and saw this on CL... i know old doesn't always = valuable, but for $25 i figured it's probably a decent deal.

i also didn't know who makes/made J.C. Higgins, otherwise i'd have posted it in the correct motor thread instead of the general forum.

J.C. Higgins was a store brand of Sears, Roebuck & Co. The Waterwitch motor was made, starting in the 1930's, by the company that once was the Kissel Motor Car Company. In 1942 the outboard business was bought by West Bend Aluminum Co. and produced as West Bend outboards, until that business was bought by Chrysler in 1965 and produced through the 1970s until bought by Bayliner, then Brunswick (Force Outboards), and the plant closed in about 1991? Long history.

The particular outboard is fairly common, not very valuable, and mostly known as the "toilet seat" tank motor.

All of the parts for a tune up on the three hp Rude are available at NAPA auto parts stores. Have the counter help get out the Sierra catalogue to find any points, plugs, condensers, carb kits and impellers. Darn good bullet proof motors but will probably need the cork float repainted with model airplane fuel proof dope. The ethanol in the gas we get now days disolves the lacquer coating on the old floats, and messes up the fuel lines etc.

Early 1950's Johnson. Someone with more expertise should be able to nail down a model. Again, a fairly common find but at least this one has the side shrouds which are often missing.
