I just did a test pour to get the feel of the project and also clean the particulate out of the silicone mold, "sticky stuff" even when dry and cured

Terrific Success..... if it were dyed black instead of the white they would be a perfect replication

sadly the product is amber in color and the white ends up off white
not white/white
shipster....proceed? go black ?

its been a fun project the RTV 2 part silicone mold is the answer
bottom line...this is worth the effort for those perfect restos, easy for do it yourselfer's
Total cost including shipping for 2 part 1lb RTV silicone kit & 2 part 1 pint kit Poly flex rubber $100 to make maybe 8-9 of what you see ....the step pads I searched on the net are $20 average

Next test...rear hull sides "Crosby script emblems" I may try in re-enforced epoxy

Those look nice!!

What kind of material are you using?? I did some research and found a company that makes a material that's CLEAR that would probably produce a purer white when it's tinted white. I e-mailed back and forth with them- They have several different hardnesses of the rubber, and they sent me cured samples of the ones that they thought would be best for the application. It is also supposed to be U.V. stable, so it should last outdoors. I can send you their info if you are interested.

I'm not exactly sure what color Amber is but if it is the one on the left in the picture, that looks Pink to me so I like Black. You can almost never go wrong with black. I'll take 4 black ones. Many thanks.

You've got way too much time on your hands...
Those turned out really great. We all have another source for those hard to find parts.

hahahha give me time I'll reproduce the Crosby Corvette boat

I love the corvette interior Im seriously considering splashing a mold of the 58 corvette interior of the Crosby and glassing it in a Glasspar G3....I think that would be that absolutely coolest little Corvette speeed boat ever designed and may be my next project

Nice job, MadProps! I'm really insterested in how you did this. I need to find a donor for pattern and make some replacements for these pads

RTV 2 Part Silicone 1 lb.
www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=61&

The trick with making the mold without a vaccuum chamber is to lay the part in a carboard box, both the box and part coated in a thin film of vaseline for a release agent, pour the silicone on top of the part .....the gas bubbles will rise away from the part
you also need to level the silcone with a straight edge as if you were screeding concrete

Poly PT Flex hardness 85

PolyColor - 1oz
shop.brickintheyard.com/PolyColor-1oz-PolyColor.htm

I used a shot glass & water to measure the amount of liquid it would take to fill the mold
so that I didnt waste material

Mix poly dye & rubber WELL and pour a thin stream into mold from a 2 ft height to eliminate bubbles

Here is a good thread on someone who makes our Correct Craft pads. I have had his white pads on mine for several years and they are holding up very well. His email is in the thread maybe you can pic his brain as to what he uses for the material.
