not a Yellow Jacket, the FireFly's were plywood kit boats, I don't know if they ever made a production boat or not, but it does resemble one, who Knows ... Bob Barker ?

The original paperwork for the boat is at the previous owners cabin. He said the brochure said Evinrude boat. Could a Evinrude dealer have built it for the game show to advertize there outboard?
Who knows?

Looked at the boat in zoom and this is what I found.

AllWood..(All Wood on the top of the Helm wheel, an "A' logo chevron in the Helm center, "Fire-Fly on the stern gunnel. in the center console it says Golden Jubilee with a Giant "E"...

All-Wood, Fire Fly, Golden Jubilee Edition?

did some rough research found nothing for "All Wood" or "Allwood"

I think the center console control board is for the 35 Lark which as the same "E" on the back of the motor...

Allwood Fire-fly, W/35 lark, Golden Jubilee outboard

Either way, what a setup! Motor looks like it has only a few short hours on it. Great find. time to start probing the framework with an icepick to make sure there are no soft spots.

No dryrot anywhere, just a little paint loss on the floor. The seats have been covered in plastic and are perfect. The clear on the deck is checked and needs to be stripped. Post pictures of it soon.

Houston, I believe the steering wheel says Attwood. I had the same steering wheels in my old 1958 Powercat 12C.

yea I kind of figured that Kmarty, thanks but I beat the search engines to death with "all wood" and "Allwood" came back with allot of mag ads that used the phrase in their ad.

had a slight hit on a boat company actually named All Wood, that was refered to in a book where it set up "shop" in an old factory, found nothing more on that one.

Re:Boat won on The Price is Right 1959 ID help 12 years 9 months ago #53743

here's a funny foot note...it not the show we are thinking of rather what would be considered a "pilot" for what we know now as "The price is right" game show.
****
The Price Is Right premiered on September 4, 1972 at 10:30 a.m. (9:30 Central) on CBS. The show was first called The New Price Is Right to distinguish itself from the earlier Bill Cullen version (1956–1965), but it proved so popular in its own right that, in June 1973, the producers decided to drop the word "New."

The stainless steel dash plate was used on both Johnson and Evinrude from 1958 to 1960 All they did to change from one year to the next (and from Evinrude to Johnson ) was to change the Medallions

1957 was the only year (in the 50s) that made an one year dash plate

Yep John is correct. I have a '59 Evinrude Golden Jubilee Fifty and they were only in 1959. I also have the same steering wheel and it's an Attwood.

Doing more reading, if anyone is interested there a blurp mentioning a 1960 TV guide which reviewed TPIR's 1959 season, also there is this big coffee table book called TV guide: fifty years of television which might be at your local library which may have something in it also.

the only reference I found of Bill Cullen in the past issues of TV guide referencing him to TPIR was early 1962.

on this youtube channel is said to be 3 lost shows of TPIR.

(still digging)

Re: Boat won on The Price is Right 1959 ID help 12 years 9 months ago #53832

cool old boat!!! yep evinrude celebrated their golden jubilee in 1959 (50 years in business 1909-1959) by putting the gold medallions on their motors and dash plates for 59....i have been looking at the attwood wheels for a while now...seems somewhere between 1959 and 1961 they changed the center medallion from red and black with the A for attwood to all white with a silver A...anyone have any known to be 1960 boats with a white medallion???? any other colors??? wheels could have been changed at any time but could be a clue to the year of a boat. thanks john

Re:Boat won on The Price is Right 1959 ID help 12 years 9 months ago #53922

I have no clue what that boat is.

Lots of boat makers provided vessels for the old The Price Is Right and other similar shows. Glass Craft of Fort Dodge, Iowa, as shown in the picture above, was one.

Cruisers, Inc. of Oconto, WI provided one of their 14 ft. Mariner wooden lapstrake models for Ralph Edwards' "Truth or Consquences" in September 1957. In Decemebr 1958 and January 1959 they had one of their 19 ft. Royal Vacationer cabin cruisers as a prize on "The Price Is Right" along with a Holiday 250 runabout on the show.

The Firefly Boat was made by Klopstock & Samson MFG. in San Carlos Ca. They were only made for a short time, probably from 1957 to the early 1960's. I believe they made three outboard models, all were the same length however, just interior changes. They did make a few larger inboards powered by Chevrolet 283 cu.in engines.I think these were approximately 21' long.

They never made a kit boat. I believe their boats were three quarter
inch plywood bottoms, and entire boat was covered with fiberglass. The decking as I recall was Fiddle Back Mahogany on most.

There main business was furniture, they were a well established business in San Francisco for many years, before relocating to San Carlos.

I hope this answers some questions and speculation.

Would like to redo that one, given the chance.

Where are you located, and do you still have this boat? Are you interested in selling it, if so what do you want for it.

Thanks for the history! Glad to have someone to set the record straight.

Can we have permission to add it to the Fiberglassics Library? I went ahead and created a page for Firefly in the Library:

WOW One year Three months laiter my boat has been properly identified. Thanks BUFF. I posted a few new pictures of the boat at it's first public appearance last year at a Tin Can Tourists rally in Petaluma Ca. It won a first place award. People loved it. Although it runs like a watch I haven't put it in the water yet. For now its just a show boat. Thanks for everyone's comments.
