TOPIC: windshield questions...

windshield questions... 12 years 10 months ago #51739

A few questions on windshields, have the frame and a template of my orig windshield from my '65 Sea King but need some guidance.....

1. what should I use acrylic (plexiglass) or poly (lexan)?
2. best way to cut the appropriate product?
3. how do you obtain the curve?
4. rubber/plastic at the base of windshield? Where can this type of material be purchased. I have the original and have tried to clean but it is badly discolored...

Thanks....Phil

wefco makes the material for that bottom windshield grommet. I have never made a windshield but others that have done it will have good advice for you.

Thank you for the tip on a potential source , and did send an inquiry.

I am on a very limited budget so am interested in learning from others in the forum on the option of doing this work myself to try to save $s if at all possible. Would love to receive a response on my inquiry that would allow me to source it out....as well as find a reasonable source for others in need. I am not holding my breath based on some of the estimates I have heard from local Cincinnati area plastics vendors.

Thanks again for the lead Haynesfiberglass.

You can use butcher paper from your locat grocery store butcher and your old windshield to trace and outline. But have you tried using the buffing compounds and a buffing wheel on the one you have. I did on mine and it looks like new.
