I have a friend with a 70 Reinell 17 foot closed bow with the 165 horse six in it. Very dependable and surprising economy. His boat is usually loaded down pretty well. He bought it used and has been running it hard 9 years with just the normal maintenance and the old girl is still doing well.
I am running a 70 Sabrecraft 17 foot closed bow with the 120 horse 4 banger. Great boat with lots of floor space for the wife and I and the dog. It is our pack horse, we do alot of camping and sightseeing out of it. It will idle around all day on a thimble full of gas. I run a 19 pitch and she tops out around 30-34. But we don't spend much time at the upper end. Just putt around and enjoy not being at work.
That 292 should do well for you. And at 19 foot, you will have lots of room. Keep us posted.
